About
The Beginning
Hello! My journey with BUG Auwe began when I conceived my first baby in 2012, ten years ago. Being an outdoorsy kind of family, we often take advantage of our warm tropical weather here in Hawaii to go hiking, gardening, or swimming in the ocean. Naturally, my kids grew up loving the outdoors.
Soon after my firstborn was born, I realized that he had extremely sensitive skin and would constantly getting bitten by random bites from ticks on our dog, to mosquitoes in our backyard and sandflies at the beach. A single bite on him would swell into hard, red quarter sized welts and my stress level compounded when it took at least three weeks to heal! If you have a kid with sensitive skin, you know what I'm talking about. 10 years ago, there were not many natural plant based baby insect repellent options on the market. The few that were plant-based based, were uncomfortably oily and greasy. My heart broke for my baby whenever I used the chemical based DEET insect repellents that smelled of synthetic pesticides on him. So BUG Auwe! was born.
It's formulated from my experience using natural products from more than twenty years of my life. Being a mother only intensified my interest to create a product of the highest quality that would protect my children and keep them safe no matter where we went. Thus, you'll find that unlike many of the repellents out there, BUG Auwe! is has a luxurious silky texture, non-oily and feels invisible on the skin - the only way my kids would enjoy having it on their skin. In addition, it gives them the all the natural goodness of being moisturizing as well as sun-screen properties they need to enjoy creating our stress-free memories whether indoors or outdoors.
In Hawaii, we say, “Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ‘Aina I ka Pono” which means “The life of the land is perpetuated in Righteousness”. Living with harmony with nature is a part of righteousness. Our planet is a gift to us. My hope, my prayer, is that BUG Auwe! will contribute to that bigger picture of living in harmony with nature and live the best life we can while protecting our aina (lands). Mahalo, Sandy Teh.
